Katy Perry Reveals Why She Turned Down Singing on David Guetta's 'Titanium'

Let's go back to 2011 — David Guetta released his dance floor anthem "Titanium" featuring Sia, and it quickly became a hit. Sia sounds incredible on the track, but Guetta had actually asked Katy Perry if she wanted to sing on it. The pop star ended up ultimately ended up turning it down, and now she's revealing why.

During a press conference for dance music festival Tomorrowland, which happened virtually this year, Perry recalled Guetta sending her "Titanium," to which the producer/DJ replied, "Oh my God! Did you turn down the record?" Katy then revealed that she listened to it and loved Sia singing the song so much that she ultimately turned it down to keep the Australian star on the track. She remembered:

"So you sent me the song, right? And this is when you had Sia, obviously from Zero 7, you know, who had already had the coolest success, she had demo'd that record. And you'd sent it to me and I remember specifically listening to it on the plane. I was like, 'Oh my God, this song is so good. Who is the person on the record? They should stay on the freakin' record. This is a hit record — don't put me on the record! Keep Sia on this record!' 'Cause I was already such a huge fan of Zero 7, and so I wrote you back an email, and I just said, 'You're crazy. I don't need to be on this record. Keep Sia on the record.' And there is 'Titanium.'"

"Titanium" went on to become a big hit for both Guetta and Sia.

Tomorrowland typically takes place in Boom, Belgium each year, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, happened virtually this past weekend on July 25th and 26th. The interactive digital festival featured eight stages and over 60 artists. Watch the full Tomorrowland press conference below.
