Justin Timberlake Details What Inspired Hopeful New Song 'Better Days'

Justin Timberlake will perform his new song, “Better Days,” at President-elect Joe Biden’s upcoming televised inauguration special later this month.

The pop hitmaker revealed he’ll be delivering the track for the first time on TV as Biden is sworn into office as the 46th president of the United States next Wednesday (January 20). Timberlake, who made the announcement Wednesday, shared the inspiration behind the song, which he actually recorded with singer-songwriter Ant Clemons on Election Day last November.

“This past year brought a lot of frustration, grief, anger — and there were times when it was easy to feel powerless”, Timberlake wrote in a statement. “This song was our way of doing what little we could to encourage everyone to stay hopeful… and keep working towards a better, more equal future.”

He added, “I’m very honored to announce we will be performing this song on January 20th for the Presidential Inauguration. We have a long way to go to fix, undo, and rebuild this country... but I hope now, despite the past four years, we are on our way. #Inauguration2021.”

“Better Days” marks Timberlake’s first song release since he teamed up with Meek Mill on their collab, “Believe,” which released in February 2020.

In addition to Timberlake, Demi Lovato, Jon Bon Jovi, Jennifer Lopez, and Lady Gaga have also been announced to perform during the 90-minute broadcast, scheduled to air on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, and MSNBC at 8:30 p.m. ET.
